Only a couple of hours away from Paris, Rouen makes for the perfect weekend getaway for architecture and gastronomic lovers alike. Here’s your guide to the best Rouen hotels and accommodation advice to suit every budget.
Rouen is a beautiful city in Northern France that’s best-known for its great Gothic cathedral, timber-framed houses, and ease of access to the rest of the Normandy region, of which it is the capital city.

Having visited the city of Rouen myself a handful of times, I’ve been lucky enough to visit the city during a few different seasons. While the summer months gives the best opportunity to explore Rouen on foot, the winter months means that the Rouen Christmas Market is held directly in front of Rouen Cathedral.
Other highlights of the Normandy capital city include a mouth watering array of restaurants and cafés, plenty of shopping opportunities, and of course, the chance to see the world-famous Great Clock of Rouen, which boasts one of the oldest working time pieces in France.
Whatever you choose to visit in the city, one of my top accommodation tips would be to make sure to base yourself somewhere central.
Almost all of the main attractions worth visiting in Rouen are focused in the old part of town, which is largely pedestrianised and so best explored on foot. During my most recent stay in Rouen, my partner and I stayed in Hotel de Bourgtheroulde, Autograph Collection and couldn’t have enjoyed our stay more!

Where to stay in Rouen, Normandy
While it’s possible to explore some of the best attractions in Rouen over the course of the day, if you truly want to get a taste for the best of the city, then I highly recommend staying for a long weekend.
After all, the capital of the Normandy region is packed with cultural activities and historical things to do! Here’s our guide to the best Rouen hotels, based on web-reviews and location.
Mid-range accommodation in Rouen
Timber framed and complete with a pretty garden and tearoom, Le Vieux Carré is located in the historic centre of old town Rouen. All rooms have free WiFi and breakfast is available for an extra fee. Check prices and availability here.
Hotel Mercure Rouen Centre Cathedrale
Located just steps away from the beautiful Rouen Cathedral, the hotel itself is situated within a half-timbered frame building and is well rated across review websites. Check prices and availability here.
Luxury accommodation in Rouen
This typically French accommodation follows the maison d’hotes formula where you stay in a home away from home that’s extra luxurious. Located within a former mansion house, and steps away from a beautiful garden, this truly is a getaway from it all. Check prices and availability here.
Hotel de Bourgtheroulde, Autograph Collection
This incredibly luxurious hotel is situated in the heart of historic Rouen, close to the Place du Vieux Marché. This 5-star accommodation has a spa, restaurant serving traditional French cuisine, and is an amazing place from which to base yourself to explore Rouen.
I personally stayed here in December 2021 and loved the incredibly comfortable bed, the bar area, and the historic details of the place. During my stay, I also checked out the pool area and hammam, both of which were just as relaxing as you might imagine. Check prices and availability here.
