Pretty, pastel, flecked with paint lines and located in the Wynwood district of Miami, a vibrant city that’s easily one of the top tourist destinations to visit in Florida, the Wynwood Wings are a must-see for any street art lover looking to visit the famous area. Here’s a quick guide on how to find the Wynwood Wings as well as nearby attractions and things to see and do.
Created by the designer behind @odobostudio on Instagram a couple of years ago (during my research, I couldn’t find any mention of traces of the wings prior to 2017), the beautiful wings can be found on 5th Avenue; exact address 2401 NW 5 Ave, Miami, FL 33127, USA.
Unfortunately, the Wynwood Wings artwork has been vandalised and thus recreated by the artist several times. However, as of our visit in late May 2019, the wings were intact and we were able to snap some pretty photos! Unlike some of the other artwork in the area, there was no one else waiting to take a photo when we visited late in the afternoon mid-week.
Nearby attractions and things to do close to the Wynwood Wings
The Wynwood Walls: Unique and easily one of the best places to visit in Miami, the Wynwood Walls were the brainchild of Tony Goldman in 2009 and form an outdoor museum of sorts. The gated area is open on a daily basis and comprises of a complex of six buildings which are covered in street art. Inside each of the buildings, there are artworks for sale, as well as a souvenir shop selling various art-related merchandise. There’s also a café on site.
Enjoy a beer at Wynwood Brewing Co.: The first microbrewery of the Wynwood art district can be found at 565 NW 24th St. Incredibly well-reviewed, the brewing company was founded in 2014 by Luis Brignoni and his father. Highlights of the menu include La Rubia (a refreshing American blonde ale) and Father Franciso (a Belgian style golden ale).
Eat doughnuts at the Salty Donut: Founded by a husband-wife duo who envisioned bringing unique versions of the sweet treat to the city of Miami, The Salty Donut is one of the best sweet shops in Wynwood, if not all of Miami. And once you’re inside, you’ll soon discover that there are plenty of unusual flavours on offer. For example, have you ever heard of a maple bacon doughnut before? For those who are simply looking to caffeinate, there are a variety of drinks on offer, including quirky blends such as vanilla lattés and blueberry espressos.
