The Salty Donut: Where to find the Best Doughnuts in Miami, USA

A history of the Salty Donut

Located along NW 23rd St, this well-reviewed café was opened by a husband-wife duo with the vision of bringing gastronomic experiences from the rest of the USA to the City of Miami. Described by one of the co-founders as ‘artisanal and rustic,’ now the line for these treats often goes all the way out the door!

Today, customer feedback remains at the heart of the business, with frequent polls on social media asking customers if they want to see the return of a certain product, or even what shop goers might like to see next. For those who truly want a souvenir to take home with them (doughnuts excluded), there’s a range of The Salty Donut branded goods available to buy, including t-shirts, totes, and mugs.

What to order at the Salty Donut

Of course, when you’re asked for your order at this Wynwood eatery, there are plenty of donut options to choose from. Between crowd favourites such as salted caramel and cookie crumble, as well as more unusual selections such as caramel and bacon (on a doughnut? Who knew!), you’re sure to find a flavour you love.

Other unusual past flavours include mimosa doughnuts, and cornbread cake doughnuts- the sky is really the limit! If you’re not used to extremely sweet foods, then you may well want to share a doughnut with a friend (they’re that sweet!), or make use of the cardboard takeaway box that’s provided with your order.

Meanwhile, the craft coffee is just as tasty, with a variety of piping hot lattes and cold refreshing coffee brews available. The vanilla iced latte comes highly recommended and couldn’t be tastier or more refreshing on a 30 degree plus day! Much like the doughnut flavours, the speciality coffee flavours change often (ever tried blueberry espresso and tonic?) and so check the specials board before ordering!

How to visit The Salty Donut

Today, the doughnut and sweet shop has two locations, that of Wynwood and another location in South Miami. Ever-popular, it’s not unusual to have to wait a little while to be served, especially around lunchtime, during school holidays, and of course, at the weekend.

The Wynwood location has various seating options, including a high-top bench inside, as well as a communal table. For those who are looking to bask in the Miami sun, there are several picnic tables outside the storefront, complete with their own umbrellas!

Otherwise, you should be sure to book at least half a day so as to see and experience the highlights of Wynwood. After all, some of the best things to do in this trendy Miami district include wandering around the free-to-visit Wynwood Walls (an outdoor gallery), snapping a photo of yourself at the Wynwood Wings (2401 NW 5 Ave), and drinking a craft beer at the Wynwood Brewing Co. Please note that the legal drinking age in the USA is 21 and over.
