Crashing waves, chalky white cliffs, and vestiges of the past are to be found around near enough every turn. If there’s one French seaside destination you’ll want to visit this year, it’s Étretat. Perfect to explore over the course of a long weekend, or an even longer stint if you have the time, if you’re looking for where to stay in Northern France, then here’s your guide to the best of Etretat hotels.

Practical Advice, Tricks and Tips for visiting Etretat, Northern France

Why you should visit Étretat, the seaside resort of Normandy

Close to the Channel, the slice of sea that separates the UK from France, Etretat is a place where the land meets the water and where local legends can be found in abundance. Somewhere on the French coastline between Le Havre and Dieppe, the chalky white cliffs that so inspired painters such as Monet can be found just an hour or so North of the city of Rouen.

Now, highlights of Étretat include a timber-framed town and enjoying the stunning vistas from the impossibly high cliffs (which are known in French as les falaises). Perfect to visit over the course of a long weekend, there are plenty of things to do in the town, even if you’re not a fan of beach holidays.

After all, nearby, there’s plenty of coastal walks to be taken, while one particular intriguing piece of local history features the Château du Tilleul. For more ideas and things to know before you go, check out my guide to the very best Étretat travel tips before your Normandy getaway!

What you should know before booking Étretat accommodation

Thanks to its status as a resort town for well over a century, there’s no shortage of Etretat accommodation to suit every budget. Unlike some of the other towns and cities in this region, there’s the option of swanky modern hotels, complete with every amenity you could ever wish for, as well as more traditional places to stay, where service is perfect and yet the rooms might be a little dated.

Next, you should know that Étretat is popular year-round, especially during peak season (i.e. the summer months and during school holidays). As such, you’ll want to book your place to stay well in advance so as to secure the best deals, rates, and accommodation.
