It was a warm, sunny morning when we strolled up to the Kitchen Garden in Bordeaux, a beautiful breakfast, brunch, and lunch spot in the heart of France’s wine city. Serving a selection of dishes that are as much a feast for the eyes as for the tastebuds, dishes on offer include sweet treats, toasted goods, and all kinds of vegan breakfast foods, here’s a review of the Kitchen Garden…
Kitchen Garden in Bordeaux Address | 22 Rue Sainte-Colombe, 33000 Bordeaux, France
Easily one of the best brunch places in Bordeaux, the Kitchen Garden can be found along a cobbled lane and is surrounded by a myriad of quirky eateries and cobbled lanes. Close enough to hear the tolling of the bell tower, the coffee shop is 100% vegetarian, though there are plenty of vegan options from which to choose if you so prefer.
And that’s not all; 50% of products are organic and 50% are sourced locally. Everything is homemade; think fluffy pancakes, scrumptious avocado spread, and even scrambled tofu in lieu of eggs should you opt for the vegan selection. Come Sunday, enjoy the perfect Bordeaux weekend speciality by heading to the eatery for the set brunch menu, which is available in either vegan or vegetarian options.
Meanwhile, the rest of the week menu offers delicious options like soups, sandwiches, and salads. Considering the price of many other Bordeaux foodie spots, we were pleasantly surprised by the sheer amount of brunch food included for the price paid; sweet pancakes, and a delightful vegetable spread, as well as fresh juice and organic coffee.
With this being said, the coffee was not nearly as good as some other spots where we caffeinated, such as Contrast Bordeaux. When it comes to the café setting, there are two options to choose from. You can either sit in the light and brightly lit interior where the coffee tables are reminiscent of a Parisian café, while plants and pretty prints can be found in abundance across the tiled walls.
The back end of the shop is dedicated to coffee making and the till, which is where you’ll also find an inviting selection of homemade cakes and magazines! If you’ve forgotten to book a table (be sure to reserve in advance for Sunday brunch as space fills up fast), then you may well luck out like we did and find a table outdoors!
Opt to sit outside and you can also enjoy a favourite French pastime; sipping on your espresso and watching the world go by. Kitchen Garden in Bordeaux is open from Tuesday through to Sunday. Call +33 (0)9 83 37 76 10 for reservations.
Attractions close to the Kitchen Garden in Bordeaux
Porte Cailhau: If you make it your mission to enjoy just one of Bordeaux’s incredible architectural monuments, make it Porte Cailhau. Best seen at sunrise when the light streams through the former gateway to the city, this stunning structure was constructed in 1495 and once marked the main gateway into the city of Bordeaux.
The car of Parking Victor Hugo: One of the best-kept secrets of the lesser-known side of Bordeaux is that of the car at the Victor Hugo Parking lot. The Victor Hugo car park can be found along Cours Victor Hugo and was built in the 1960s. Renovated during the 1990s, it was at that point that a green British Car, by the make of Jaguar, was installed to the side of the building by artist Dosso.
