Home to a selection of stunning vistas, not to mention some of the best-preserved Ancient sites from some two millennia ago, Vienne is the perfect destination for a long and lazy weekend. Here’s your guide to the best Vienne hotels, including where to stay and an accommodation guide for every budget!

Home to some of the greatest Roman ruins in Eastern France, if not the entirety of Europe, the small town of Vienne remains something of a secret when it comes to travelling through the region, though once you’ve visited you’ll be puzzled as to why.

If you’re reading the name ‘Vienne,’ then you might well be confused as ‘Vienne’ is actually the name for ‘Vienna’ (the capital city of Austria) in French.
In a rather more confusing turn of events, during Roman times, Vienne in France would have been known as Vienna while the Vienna in Austria would have been known as Vindobona… Got that?
So now that we’ve got that cleared up, here’s a little glimpse as to what’s in store for you should you opt to visit: first up, there’s a myriad of Roman ruins to explore, including a former amphitheatre turned open-air performance space and one of the best-preserved Roman temples outside of Rome, that of the Temple d’Auguste et Livie.
Other things to do in Vienne include heading just across the river to the Musée Gallo-Romain-en-Gal, sampling the local cuisine at one of the many eateries spread across the city, and hiking up to one of the many vantage points above the valley where Vienne is to be found.
Vienne also happens to be the filming location of many a movie including the hit film ‘Paris Can Wait’. Last but not least, for fans of ecclesiastical architecture, Vienne cathedral is a can’t miss!

Best Vienne Hotels and accommodation

After all, Lyon is one of the largest cities in the region and is just a short train ride away from Vienne. Otherwise, read on for the best places to stay in Vienne based on location and web-reviews…
