Whenever I go to a new city, I often find that one of the best ways to delve straight into the local cuisine is by embarking on a food tour led by a local guide. And so, if you’re planning to visit Rome, here are some of the best Rome food tours that you’ll want to book ASAP.
The Eternal City is not only iconic for its millennia old architecture and beautiful cobbled streets, but also for its delectable foodie scene. After all, this is the capital of the country where pizza, pasta, and tiramisu were born!
Please note that these are all food tours. If you want to take a cooking class instead, be sure to check out our guide to the best cooking classes in Rome.

Best Rome Food Tours
Rome: Food and Wine Tour with Market Visit
Tour time: 4 hours
Price: from 90€ per person
One of the greatest joys of a visit to Europe is to visit the market, a place where fresh fruit, just-out-of-the-oven bread, and mouthwateringly tasty sweets can be purchased all in one place.
For an introduction on how to get around a market in Italy, you’ll want to book yourself onto this tour, which will show you some of the must-see spots in the largest market in Rome. Highlights include tasting truffles, 30-year-old balsamic vinegar, and even trying the most expensive ham in Italy.
VIP Golf Cart Rome Food Tour
Tour time: 4 hours
Price: from 169€ per adult
If you want to discover the Rome foodie scene from an entirely different perspective to your classic walking tour, then consider booking this food tour which will take you around in a golf buggy. Other highlights include tasting delicious artichokes and a Prosecco toast at Gianicolo Hill.
Trastevere Food Tour with Pasta Making
Tour time: 3,5 hours
Price: from 109€ per adult
This is one of the only food tours in Rome which will not only take you around Trastevere but will also show you insights into the secret of pasta making. This tour begins with a light breakfast Italian style (that is to say, a beignet) followed by a guided walk through Trastevere.
Then, you’ll be taken around the Cosimato food market, a truly authentic Roman market. Indeed, this is one of the only surviving outdoor markets in the city, making it that extra special.
Visit from Monday through to Saturday and you’ll soon discover plenty of fresh produce including local fruits and typical Italian cheeses. What’s more is that Mercato di San Cosimato is much less busy than the nearby Campo de’ Fiori, making for a more authentic experience.

Taste of Testaccio Food Tour
Tour time: 4 hours
Price: from 79€ per adult
Testaccio is a little more off the beaten path than acclaimed Trastevere and so the peculiarity of this food tour is that you’ll be shown around this area, including the local Testaccio Market, which fewer tourists frequent.
Other highlights of this tour include learning how to make the perfect bruschetta using local tomatoes, sampling prosciutto, caprese salad, supplì, and wine, and sampling gelato from a gelateria that is over 100 years old!
Rome: 4-Hour Food Tour by Night
Tour time: 4 hours
Price: from 135€ per person
While most food tours of Rome take place during the day, if your days are full of sightseeing and checking out museums, then another way to dive into the culinary culture of Rome is to book a night tour.
This will also mean you probably won’t have to make a dinner reservation that evening as you’ll be so full from all of the tastings! What’s more is that this tour is all you can eat and drink, including wine!
Rome: Street Food Tour with Local Guide
Tour time: 2,5 hours
Price: from 48€ per person
If you’re pressed for time, then this is one of the most affordable and shortest food tours of Rome. The best part about this GYG certified tour is that you have the possibility to choose between two famous districts: the Jewish Quarter or Trastevere.
Eternal Rome Food Tour: Jewish Ghetto, Campo de’ Fiori and Trastevere
Tour time: 4 hours
Price: from 109€ per adult
If you can’t decide the best district in which to book a food tour, then why not book them all? This 4 hour long tour will take you through three of the most mesmerising areas of Rome: Campo de’ Fiori, the Jewish Ghetto, and Trastevere.
As well as discovering hidden gems, you’ll get the chance to taste authentic Italian pasta, real gelato, cherry ricotta cake, porchetta sandwich, and more. One of the most interesting aspects of this tour is that you’ll also get access to a 2000 year old wine cellar for a wine tasting.
Rome: Espresso, Gelato and Tiramisù Tasting Tour
Tour time: 2,5 hours
Price: from 54€ per person
If you’re the kind of traveller who has more of a sweet tooth and prefers a dessert-focused experience, then this tour is for you. Perfect for a lazy afternoon after a large meal, this tour showcases several classic Italian desserts such as tiramisu and gelato. You’ll also learn more about the art of coffee in Italy.
