Home to many Hollywood stars, Beverly Hills is perhaps as famous as its residents. This city in Los Angeles County is known for its luxurious lifestyle, and it is home to some of the most lavish homes and hotels in California. This guide to Beverly Hills will answer all your questions and provide you with a perfect one day in Beverly Hills itinerary.

Beverly Hills is a popular place to visit where you can keep an eye out for celebrities and try to imagine what it would be like to live there; I, for one, probably wouldn’t love it, but it’s fun to think about.

And if you’re planning a trip to Beverly Hills, then you must be wondering what to do while you’re there, when you should visit, how to get there, and where to stay.

When to Visit

Like much of Southern California, Beverly Hills benefits from pleasant weather year-round, so you don’t have to worry too much about that as you plan your trip. In summer, temperatures can get as high as 87°F (31°C), which isn’t too bad.

October and November may be the best months to visit, factoring in weather and travel costs and avoiding peak holiday seasons.

However, if you’re planning a trip to California or the LA area some other time, I’d recommend squeezing your day in Beverly Hills onto that trip, especially if you’re traveling from far away.

How to Get There

From Los Angeles International Airport, it’s about a 30-minute drive (if the traffic isn’t too bad). You can take I-105 E to I-405 N, and then you can take Santa Monica Boulevard the rest of the way.

If you’re coming from downtown Los Angeles or the east, you can take I-10 W to Robertson Boulevard and then follow directions from there.

You can also use public transportation, but the area isn’t known for having great public transportation, and it will take you a lot longer to get there.

Where to Stay

Beverly Hills is a great day trip from anywhere in LA County and the surrounding cities. But if you’re coming from farther away, you’ll need a place to stay.

For a luxurious option—to make you feel like you’re one of the stars—Waldorf Astoria is a fantastic hotel. You’ll be truly taken care of here with a view from the balcony, an outdoor swimming pool, and a fitness center, and you’ll even have a hairdresser at your disposal. What’s more luxurious than that!

If you’re looking for a mid-range hotel, Crescent Beverly Hills, Mosaic Hotel, and Avalon Hotel Beverly Hills are good choices.

And if you’re looking for a budget-friendly, check out Hotel Del Flores, Carlyle Inn, or Wilshire Crest Hotel.

One Day in Beverly Hills suggested itinerary

Here’s how to spend your one day in Beverly Hills!

Morning

As the most important meal of the day, you should start your morning with a delicious breakfast. As you can imagine, there are lots of restaurants and cafes around.

Polo Lounge is a high-class place where you may just spot a celebrity. You’ll find it in the Beverly Hills Hotel. The art deco eatery offers refined Californian cuisine and a Sunday jazz brunch.

Or, for something a little more budget-friendly, you can try Urth Caffe. This bustling place has organic coffee and American eats, and its patio is a great place to people-watch.

You can also head over to Chaumont Bakery and Café, which serves pastries and sweets, but they also have breakfast and light sandwiches.

After you fill your stomach, it’s time to empty your wallet with some shopping. Beverly Hills’ Rodeo Drive is famous for its shopping. This two-mile stretch is one of the most expensive streets in the world.

If your eyes just went wide, don’t worry. You don’t have to have or spend that kind of money to explore this posh street. You can just look around.

There are more than 100 designer clothing, accessory, and home goods stores on this short street, so if you love shopping, plan plenty of time for this activity.

As you explore, be sure to look down too. Like its counterpart in Hollywood, the Hollywood Walk of Fame, Rodeo pays tribute to the people that shaped its industry.

Embedded in the Rodeo Walk of Style are bronze plaques with the names of master fashion designers of the world. These plaques include people like Armani and Versace.

The insides of the stores here are stunning, so be sure to take a look into stores like Gucci, Fendi, Louis Vuitton, Saint Laurent, and Chanel. Some stores, like Louis Vuitton, have exclusive products sold only on Rodeo.

And while you’re in the shopping mood, stop by Two Rodeo, a high-end outdoor shopping plaza with posh retailers and upscale places to eat. Here you’ll find Tiffany & Co., Lanvin, Porsche Design, and many more.

There are also some luxury department stores nearby—Saks Fifth Avenue, Barneys New York, and Neiman Marcus—so check those out.

Afternoon

After all that walking around and shopping, you’ll be hungry again. Try a local favorite, Walter’s Café, that’s been around since 1949. This restaurant has a large menu of casual fare. They also have a bakery and outdoor seating.

If you’ve ever wanted to try the original California Pizza Kitchen, you’ll find it right here in Beverly Hills on “SoBev” (south Beverly Drive).

Or you might try Nate ‘n Al Delicatessen, an upscale Jewish deli that’s been serving sandwiches for more than 77 years. The restaurant almost feels like a museum; you can sense its history. It’s also a popular spot for actors, so if it’s your mission to spot a celebrity (and you haven’t already), check out this deli.

After lunch, it’s time to recenter with a stroll through the gardens of the Greystone Mansion, a famous residence also known as the Doheny Mansion.

While you can only go inside the mansion for special events, the grounds are usually open to the public daily with no fee for entry or parking (a California miracle).

The grounds are beautiful—no wonder they’ve been the backdrop for tons of movies, tv shows, and music videos, including Spider-Man, Arrow, Gilmore Girls, Star Trek Into Darkness, X-Men, and others. Stroll through the gorgeous gardens and see if you recognize any of the spots.

If the Greystone Mansion happens to be closed, or if you have some more time, you can also go to Beverly Gardens Park, where you’ll find picturesque landscaping, sculptures, and fountains.

This is also home to the Beverly Hills sign that you may have seen on Instagram. You may have to wait your turn for a photo, but you might as well take one while you’re here (especially if you want to post it).

Next, you have the choice of visiting Museum Row or a spa, depending on your preference.

Museum Row, as the name suggests, holds several museums, including the Petersen Automotive Museum and the Los Angeles County Museum of Art (LACMA). The museums lie on Wilshire Boulevard between Fairfax Avenue and La Brea Avenue.

The Petersen Automotive Museum isn’t just for car lovers—but if you’re interested in cars, you should definitely check it out. It’s one of the largest automotive museums in the world. Here you can see both vintage classic cars and cutting-edge modern vehicles.

Across the street is the Los Angeles County Museum of Art, which holds more than 150,000 works covering the history of art from ancient times to the present.

Outside the museum, there are a few public art displays. I’ve visited the one called “Urban Light”, which is best seen at night when the rows of street lamps are lit up against the night. You can walk among these solar-powered, restored street lamps, just don’t climb on them because the security guards will yell at you (not that I have any experience with that).

If museums aren’t your thing, or if you want to relax in a city that knows rejuvenation well, head to a spa for a luxurious treatment. Thibiant Beverly Hills, Spa at Beverly Wilshire, or The Peninsula Spa Beverly Hills are just a few of the spas in Beverly Hills, and your hotel may have one too.

Evening

If your stomach is rumbling by this point, I’ve got just the remedy.

If you want to go all out with some fine dining, you have to try Ima, a Japanese restaurant that serves high-grade wagyu like none other. You’ll feel like you stepped from Beverly Hills into Tokyo with the service and ambiance of this restaurant.

At Spago, you’ll find an upscale bar in the front for cocktails and small bites, and in the back, you’ll see the main dining room where you can choose from a multi-course California tasting menu and seasonal a la carte menu.

If you’re on a budget, you might try something like Honor Bar, a casual bar and grill with New American cuisine and sushi.

After dinner, you can see a show at one of the live theaters in Beverly Hills, like the Saban Theater. Or you can check out the nightlife on Sunset Strip—you may not be able to get into some of the exclusive nightclubs, but you’re sure to find somewhere to have a fun night.

Enjoy your time in Beverly Hills and happy traveling!
