Pretty photos, endless wanderlust inspiration and the fact that the network is in general, pretty positive. Who isn’t on Instagram these days? And besides, to be a hater, you actually have to write stuff and, like, make an effort. There are no down arrows or anything.
So what does all this mean? Well it means that I only check my own Instagram (@sophieannenadeau) about 30+ times a day #oops#sorrynotsorry #whyamihashtaggingablogpost… Anyway, having been on the platform for just over a year, I’ve picked up some instagram hacks along the way.
So here are 5 Instagram hacks that actually work:
You can use up to 60 hashtags to your photo.
How? First upload your photo with a caption (no hashtags yet!). Then add your first comment with 30 hashtags in it. After uploading your photo with caption and adding your comment, go back to the caption and select ‘edit’. You can now add up to 30 more hashtags to your caption. You’re welcome.
You can add old photos to stories.
How? When you go to upload a new ‘story’, swipe down on the top of the screen and voilá you’ll get a whole selection of photos you’ve previously taken to choose from! One of the best Instagram hacks is that you can use to improve the overall look of your profile is to create ‘covers’ for your Instagram stories.
Never use filters!
As a general rule, I never ever ever use the filters which come with the Instagram app. In fact, studies have even shown that using filters on your photos will, in general, result in less engagement. Instead, edit your photos first on a different application or by using LightRoom (use these editing apps instead).
Stick to a theme. I mean it.
When people look at your profile, you’ll have about 2.1 seconds, if that, to impress them. Make it count: don’t mix drunken Friday night selfies into your beautifully curated feed. One: other than your equally hungover friends, who cares? Two: Do you really want your boss to see that?
You can switch accounts without logging out.
A little while ago, I was thinking about creating a new account. But, to be honest, the thought of constantly logging in and out made me feel very lazy. So I didn’t. Well, now, you can easily manage multiple accounts from the same profile.
Simply go into settings (which can be found by clicking on the three little dots on the top right of your profile page), then scroll down to add accounts. Then add your account details (i.e. username and password). Yes, it really is as simple as that!
Bonus: Make sure to keep your profile public.
Unless you’re a legit celebrity, no one’s ever going to follow you if they don’t know what’s hiding behind that little padlock emoji…
