One of the tiniest Christmas markets in Paris is located at Place des Abbesses, a little square known for its iconic love wall and proximity to the butte of Montmartre.
Each festive period, a little market is erected in the square, encircling the carousel. Here’s your guide to the Abbesses Christmas market in Montmartre (Marché de Noël des Abbesses).
2023 Abbesses Christmas Market dates: November 25th – December 31st
Market open times: 10 am to 8 pm, Monday to Sunday

The Abbesses Christmas market comprises of just over a dozen chalets (15 in total) organised around a carousel on the Place des Abbesses. As well as a few food stalls, there’s chalets selling little gifts such as clothing and jewellery.
If I’m honest, I wouldn’t personally go out of my way to visit the market but would instead check out this market if I were already in the area to explore Montmartre. Almost everything is local and has the label of ‘Made in France’.

On Wednesdays, Saturdays, and Sundays, there’s a free workshop where smaller children can meet Santa Clause, as well as other events such as felt star making.
The market is free to visit. Be sure to bring cash as not all vendors accept card payments.
As there is only a handful of chalets, there is not as much Christmas Market food on offer as some larger events in the capital. With this being said, there is still honey from Paris, vin chaud (mulled wine in English!), dried fruits and nuts, and a few other snack-like foods.

How to visit Abbesses Christmas Market
The easiest way to get to this particular Parisian Christmas Market is by hopping on the metro. Place des Abbesses is served by its very own metro stop which leads out into the centre of the square, that itself is home to a quaint Parisian merry go round.
Opened in 1913, Abbesses is actually the deepest Parisian metro station and is at 36 metres underground. The best way to come to the surface is by hopping into one of the automated elevators which operate at the same time as the metros run.
Alternatively, one of the best hidden gems of Montmartre is the printed art that lines the spiralling stairway that leads up from the train carriage level to the surface. But, should you opt to take the stairs, be warned that there are over five flights of stairs encompassing over 100 steps!

On the same square, Place des Abbesses, you’ll find the ‘I Love You Wall’. With this being said, while Christmas Markets are typically more magical by night (when they’re illuminated by twinkling lights), the wall is in a square which is closed between dusk and dawn.
